- California Transportation Commission - Active Transportation Program
- Jan 31 2019 - $10.3M grant awarded by CTC to TAMC for FORTAG segments in Canyon Del Rey
- Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC)
- ~$37M in funding through: (1) TAMC transportation tax measure, approved by Monterey County voters in Nov 2016 election, (2) State ATP grant to TAMC (2019), (3) Federal FLAP award (2022).
- 10 Nov 2022 - FORTAG project awarded an additional ~10M from Federal Lands Access Program for segment between Imjin Rd and Jerry Smith Trailhead
- June 17, 2021 - FORTAG Segment One workshop scheduled
- February 2021 - FORTAG Segment One final outreach & final design commences with consultant team led by GHD
- March to June 2020 -FORTAG Final Environmental Impact Report certified and FORTAG Master Agreement approved by TAMC Board, MPRPD, Monterey County, and the Cities of Del Rey Oaks, Monterey, Seaside, and Marina.
- Nov 7 2019 - Draft Environmental Impact Report released for public comment
- June 13 2019 - TAMC issues Notice of Preparation of CEQA document for FORTAG
- Jan 31 2019 - $10.3M in additional state funding secured for FORTAG via grant awarded to TAMC by the California Transportation Commission. Grant covers Canyon Del Rey segments from Fremont to Carlton, and a connection up Carlton into Seaside along Plumas. Total funding now at $30.8M.
- Aug 22 2018 - TAMC Board approves contract to team led by Alta Planning + Design for FORTAG preliminary engineering design & environmental review
- Feb 2018 - TAMC Board approves issuance of Request for Proposals for firms to complete FORTAG preliminary engineering design & environmental review
- Dec 2017 - TAMC Board approves programming of additional $1M in funds toward FORTAG environmental review
- Nov 16 2017 - Five jurisdictions & TAMC approve MOU designating TAMC as Lead Agency for environmental review of FORTAG under CEQA. Specific approvals: City of Monrerey (9/19), City of Marina (9/19), City of Del Rey Oaks (10/11), City of Seaside (11/16), County of Monterey (11/14), Transportation Agency for Monterey County (9/27).
- Mar 22 2017 - TAMC Board Approves conditional programming toward FORTAG of approximately $900K of funds managed by TAMC (TDA 2% funds), contingent on and to be used as match toward an upcoming application for additional funds through the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP)
- Nov 30 2016 - FORTAG to receive $20M in funding
Latest election results indicate that Measure X has passed with 100% certainty (still waiting for official certification on 12/6),
which means that FORTAG now has $20M in funding. - Mar 2016 - TAMC Board approval (unanimous). FORTAG remains at $20M in a motion to amend the list approved in February.
- Feb 2016 - TAMC Board approval. FORTAG included at $20M on final list of regional projects to be funded by TAMC's transportation tax measure going to county voters in November 2016.
- Dec 2015 - FORTAG included on "early draft" list of projects authorized by TAMC Board for public review
(listed under "Recreational Trails, including Fort Ord Rec Trail") - Nov 2015: FORTAG on list of projects being considered by TAMC staff & TAMC-convened community groups
- Aug 2015: TAMC Board unanimously adopted motion directing “staff to assist in finding funding sources for the project, provide more information on a possible TAMC role, and present funding and phasing ideas. directing staff to work toward FORTAG.”

- Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District
- 2020: MPRPD Board of Directors approved FORTAG Master Agreement
- Oct 2017: MPRPD Board of Directors approved Resolution 2017-10 supporting FORTAG in various aspects, including an undercrossing of Gen. Jim Moore Blvd in so far as this relates to FORTAG alignments through MPRPD properties either side of GJMB.
- Dec 2015: MPRPD Board of Directors adopted 5-Year Strategic Plan explicitly including support for FORTAG's mission in exploring site management opportunities for a "potential Marina-Seaside Trails Preserve" i.e. the concept referred to on FORTAG maps as a proposed "Fort Ord Regional Park" on Monterey County land in the former Fort Ord
- Fort Ord Reuse Authority (FORA)
- Jun 2016: FORTAG named in the FORA's final Regional Urban Design Guidelines
- Mar 2016: FORA Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution in support of a Draft Trails Concept that mirrors the proposed FORTAG alignment
- Feb 2016: FORTAG alignment in the form of the FORA Trails Blueprint approved by FORA PRAC Committee to go to the FORA Board for approval
- May 2015: FORTAG used as starting point for FORA Trails Blueprint
- Mar 2015: FORTAG included in FORA’s draft Habitat Conservation Plan
- Jan 2015: FORTAG highlighted in introduction to Fort Ord Trails Symposium
- City of Marina
- 2020: Marina City Council approved FORTAG Master Agreement
- 19 Sep 2017: City Council approved MOU for TAMC as CEQA Lead Agency (see above)
- April 2016: Master planning for FORTAG included in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for the City of Marina. Council approved an update to the City's 5-year CIP including $50K for a Parks Master Plan update encompassing the Marina sections of FORTAG and the (overlapping) Veterans Trail
- Nov 2014: Council unanimously adopted motion (after FORTAG presentation) to support and progress with concept of a 13-mile loop around Marina (i.e. the FORTAG northern loop
- Jan 2014: Council unanimously adopted motion to investigate feasibility of a trail & greenway from 8th St to Intergarrison Rd (a key FORTAG segment)
- City of Seaside
- 2020: Seaside City Council approved FORTAG Master Agreement
- 24 Jan 2018 - Joint Special Meeting of City Council & Planning Commission studied Draft Seaside General Plan Update, which includes FORTAG
- 16 Nov 2017: City Council approved MOU for TAMC as CEQA Lead Agency (see above)
- Nov 2017 - FORTAG included in General Plan Public Draft

The Past
The FORTAG vision is being furthered in several ways on several fronts by many people. Some but not all of that is reflected in the timeline below, which is intended to serve as an indication of the level of effort and inclusiveness that is involved, along with some of the major milestones on Fort Ord in general.
